NAREB issues call to action to grow black homeownership

National Association of Real Estate Brokers draws hundreds to 74 th  Annual Convention in Cleveland, OH to lay out plans to build Black wealth through homeownership

Washington, DC – July 19, 2021 –The National Association of Real Estate Brokers, Inc. (NAREB) is convening, its 74 th Annual Convention in-person to craft action strategies designed to lift the sluggish Black homeownership rate of 45.1% to bring it on par with the non-Hispanic White rate now at 73.8%. Meeting under the theme, “Restoring Stability, Rebuilding Community, Retaining Legacy”, registrants will learn about the multi-pronged business and consumer-focused strategies NAREB plans to set in motion. As important, the 74-year-old minority trade association will install Cleveland, OH native, Lydia Pope as the 32 nd national president for a two-year term , only the third woman to hold the office. The convention will be held at the Cleveland Hilton Downtown Hotel, 100 Lakeside Avenue E, Cleveland, OH 44114, July 24-28, 2021.

“A life-threatening pandemic, combined with economic stressors continues to affect our lives and futures. NAREB understands our Black community’s dilemma, which is why we will be unveiling our Five Strategic Priorities at the convention. These strategic priorities are based upon preparing Black Americans for wealth-building through homeownership and strengthening Realtist opportunities for business growth,” said Lydia Pope, NAREB’s next president.

The three-day convention and installation will feature many in-person and virtual local and national political, business, economic, and civil rights leaders; Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (D-OH), The Honorable Marcia L. Fudge , Secretary, US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Dr. Benjamin Chavis, Jr ., iconic civil rights leader, theologian, author, president/CEO of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), and Executive Producer/Host of The Chavis Chronicles airing on PBS channels, Ahmaad Crump , popular and dynamic voice of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Honorable Basheer Jones, Member, Cleveland City Council and Honorable Shontel Brown, Member, Cuyahoga County Council, former Ohio State Senator Nina Turner and Bishop Eric K. Clark, Founder and CEO, Body of Christ Assembly, Cleveland, OH.

Convention general, workshop, and training sessions cover topics including: 2022 mortgage market trends; post-pandemic approaches to forbearances, underwriting, and credit requirements; action plans to increase business productivity; building wealth by purchasing off-market properties; government business opportunities; digital marketing strategies; thriving in the luxury real estate arena, and understanding current legislative and policy initiatives affecting the growth of Black homeownership, and more.
